A Thai restaurant classic, you can make at home! Packed full of umami flavours from oyster and fish sauce with a seriously spicy dipping sauce.



  • 2x 200g Beef Steak - use any steak cut that you prefer
  • 1 tbsp Thai Taste Oyster Sauce
  • 4 tbsp Thai Taste Fish Sauce
  • 3 tsp Thai Taste Palm Sugar
  • Vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp Thai Taste Sticky Rice - Use the remaining to serve with the dish
  • 1 tbsp Thai Taste Tamarind Paste
  • juice of 1 lime
  • 1 tbsp chilli flakes
  • 1 Thai shallot - finely sliced
  • chopped coriander for serving
  • Green Beans & Cabbage to serve

Steps for cooking

  • 1.Combine the oyster sauce, 1 tbsp fish sauce, 1 tsp palm sugar in a small mixing bowl. Pour over the steaks and massage the marinade all over the steaks. Cover and leave to marinate whilst we make the dipping sauce.
  • 2. For the Crying Tiger Sauce, start by toasting 2 tsp of the sticky rice in a dry pan on a high heat until they are golden brown and start to smell a little like popcorn. Add these to a pestle & mortar and grind to a fine powder.
  • 3. In a bowl add the tamarind, 3 tbsp fish sauce, lime juice, chilli flakes, 2 tsp palm sugar, mix,then add the shallot and coriander. This is now ready to serve!
  • 4. Cooking the Steaks - Heat a large pan over a high heat and brush with oil. Add the steaks and cook. Making sure to turn over for even cooking. For medium-rare cook for 2-3 minutes on each side. Transfer to a chopping board and allow to rest for a further 3 minutes.
  • 5. To serve slice the steaks into easy dipping potions with rice,green beans and cabbage,
